Gudhi Padwa special menu – Basundi Puri.

Year after year, every year, without fail and single break, I have been buying Basundi, on the auspicious day of Gudhi Padwa, to add flavors to the New Shalivahana Shaka, from Adarsh Mithai Mandir, Nana Chowk, Grant Road, Mumbai.

The celebration is incomplete without Basundi from Adarsh Mithai Mandir. So far in my life, I have not yet found Taste of Basundi from anyone else even coming close to Basundi from Adarsh Mithai Mandir. My advice - Reach early to avoid disappointment of being sold out, bring home heavenly Basundi and ensure that it’s refrigerated immediately so that at the time of enjoyment along with Puri, it must be just chilled,

Gudhi Padwa is one of the occasions to visit Adarsh Mithai Mandir. Their mithai’s are simply outstanding and always so fresh. . It’s one of the Top Five Sweets shop in Mumbai.

ये क्या हुवा कैसे हुवा क्यु हुवा ये ना पुछो. पुरते वस्त्रहरण जाहले म्हणायचे की हो, ह्या लाजिरवाण्या पराभवानंतर. वर म्हणुपण शकत नाही बचेगें तो औरभी लडंगे.
मी काय म्हणतो, आपले रथी महारथी असे गलितगात्र का बरे होत आहेत. चॅपल गुरुजीचा ऊपदेश असा का बरे विफल का झाला ? हे सर्व अतिलाड व फाजिल आत्मविश्वासाचे परीणाम तर नसावे ? एकुणच ह्या देशात क्रिकेट आणि क्रिकेटीयर ह्याचे प्रमाणाबाहेर महत्व फुगवले गेलेले आहे त्याचीच ही परीणीति नसावी ना ?
एक मरे त्याचा दुजा शोक वाहे. किती किती आणि केव्हा केव्हा हरण्याचा शोक मनवायचा ? सवय तर झाली होतीच पण म्हणुन काय बांगलादेशाबरोबर ? त्यातल्या त्यात समाधानाची बाब. पाकिस्तानला आयलॅंड हरवले व त्याचा संघ स्पधेबाहेर गेला.

मु.पो. सुसाळे. त्या पोर्णिमेच्या रात्री आमचा मुक्काम होता सुसाळे बेटावर, मुळशी तलावातील एका निसर्गरम्यजागी. आम्ही म्हणजे तीन शिलेदार, श्री सुरेश परांजपे, श्री परांजपे (आडनाव बंधु) आणि अस्मादिक.
दुपारची १२ च्या सुमारास लोणावळ्यावरुन सुटणारी भांबुर्डे गावाला जाणारी राज्य परिवाहनची बस आम्हाला पकडायची होती मग त्यासाठी सकाळीच लोणावळयाला पोहोचलो, तीन तास इथे कुठे घालवायचे ह्या विचारांनी कोरी गडच्या दिशेने चालायला सुरवात केली अर्थात वाटेत चिक्की घेण्यास थांबलो होतो ना. आय ऐन ऐस शिवाजी पार करत सहारा लेक सिटीच्या जवळ अलीकडे झालेल्या नविन सन सेट पॉइटवर थोडासा टाईमपास केला कोरी गड मोहवत होतो पण आता लक्ष होते सुसळे बेट. तेवद्यात मागुन बस आलीच. तेलबैल्याला लांबुनच सलाम करीत बस आपल्या मुक्कामी, भांबुर्डे गावाला पोहोचली. खाना खा लिया, पानी पी लिया अब चले सुसाळे की और.
एक अर्धाकच्चा वाहनांचा रस्ता येथुन पॊडच्या दिशेने जातो मग आमची त्यावरुन पदयात्रा सुरु जाहली अतिशय निसर्गरम्य अश्या रस्तावरुन. एका बाजुला मुळशी तलावाचे विहंगरम्य द्रुश्य, छानसे वाटेवरील घनदाट जंगल अवलोकीत, त्यात एका ओढ्यात तयार झालेले रांजण पाहात ३-४ तासाच्या पायपिटीनंतर मुख्य रस्ता सोडुन डावी क्डे वळलो, रस्तात गावकऱ्यानी सांगितलेली " एकाच झाड आहे तेथे वळा " ही खुण लक्षात ठेवली होती ह्या बेटाचे एक निमुळते टोक रस्ताला मिळत असल्यामुळे येथुन जाता येते. मजलदरमजल करीत आखिर पोहचलो सुसाळे बेटावर.
वरती छोटेसे गाव असुन आमची सोय त्यांनी छोट्याश्या देवळात केली. दुसऱ्या दिवशी पहाटे ऊठुन सर्वप्रथम बेटावरील उत्तुंग टोक गाठले ते देहभान हरपण्यासाठीच. नजर जाईल तेथपर्यत पाणीच पाणी, घनदाट जंगल, वर पसरलेले निळाइ आकाश. वा राजाबाबु बढीया है । बस्स मौ़त आनी है तो इसी व़क्त आये ॥
नास्तापाणी करुन आता परतीच्या वाटेवर लागायचे होते पण परत आलो ती वाट चोखाळायची नव्हती, गावकऱ्यांना विनंतिअर्ज केले , काहीही करा पण आमची नौका पार करा ही दो. ते तयार झाले आणि आम्ही सज्ज जाहलो नौकाविहारासी. डोंगर ऊतरुन तलावाकाठी आली आमची स्वारी. बरे झाले मगाशी म्हटले होते ते मौतबीत विषयी, पण ते खरेबीरे झाले नाही ते. आत्ताची अनुभुती शब्दाच्या पलिकडची होती. भलामोठा तो मुळशी तलाव त्यात आम्ही चिमुकले मत्समानव, निसर्गाने चहुअगांने उधळण केलेली न्याहळतांना , अचानक श्री सुरेश परांजपेना पराशर ऋषी आणि मत्सगंधा आठवले, नक्कीच ह्याच परीसरात पराशर ऋषी देहभान हरपले असणार. त्यात त्यांचा काय दोष ? ही सारी निसर्गाची किमया.
सर्व चागंल्या गोष्टीची केव्हातरी अखेर होत असते. नौकाविहाराची पण. पलिकडच्या किनाऱ्यावर पोहचलो आणि परत सुरु झाली वाटचाल घुसळखांबच्या दिशेने. प्रसन्नचित्ताने.
ह्या नंतरची भ्रमंती होती धन गड ते पाछ्यापुरच्या वाडी पर्यंत. परत केव्हातरी.

यंदाला वट्पोर्णिमेला मी पण वडाला दोरा गुडाळत फेरी मारणार. अशी बायको मला जन्मोजन्मी लाभो.

आयुष्यात का कोण जाणे खुप गोष्टी करायच्या उगीचच राहुन जातात. काही सबळ कारण असते असेही नाही.

उ.दा. वास्तविक पहाता मी सौ. विणा सहत्रबुद्धे ह्यांच्या गाण्यावर फिदा झालेली वक्ती. पुर्वी त्याचा एकही कार्यक्रम मी चुकवत नसे. आज मला अचानक जाणवले की गेले कित्तेक महिने. त्यांची गाणी cassette वर सुद्दा ऐकली नाहीत.
साधे केळवे माहीमला सहलीला जाण्याचे राहुन गेले आहे. प्रतेक पावसाळ्यात लोहगडला जाण्याच्या विचाराचे काय झाले समजले नाही.

आणि हो, वजन कमी करायचे, दिवसातुन पाच, सहा कि.मी. चालायचे, आणि पुन्हा सह्याद्रि मध्ये भटकंती सुरु करायचे ही राहुन गेले आहे. ( I have done lots and lots of Treks in my good old days. My recent treks were two years back. from Bhamburde near Lonavala to Paachhapurchi Wadi near Pali and before that to a beautiful island in Mulshi Lake called Susale. Again one of the approach is from Bhamburde near Lonavala )

Hopefully I am planning trek to Rajmachi on 24, 25 March to attend a programme on श्री गो.नि, दांडेकर.

अनंताश्रम - खोताची वाडी

ANANTASHRAM IS AT THE END OF THIS VILLA.

मासे जेव्हा मरण पावल्यानंतर अनंताश्रमच्या स्वयपाकघरात पोचत असतील तेव्हा त्याना आपले मरण सार्थ्यकी(?) लागल्याचे समाधान मिळत असावे.

अनंताश्रमही एक घरगुतीस्वरुपाची खोताची वाडी, शंकरशेट रोड, गिरगाव येथील जगप्रसिद्ध मांसाहारी खानावळ आहे. येथे उत्तम मासे, मटण आणि कोबंडी थाळी मिळते.

मालकांनी मला त्याच्यावर लेख लिहिण्यास मनाई केली. त्याना मी internet वर मराठी माणंसाच्या restaurant वर मी लेख लिहितो व त्यांच्यावर लिहिण्याबद्द्ल मला गोव्यामधील कोणी व्यक्तीने सांगितले म्हणुन मी माहितीसाठी आलो आहे असे सांगितले. त्यावर त्याची ही प्रतिक्रिया. त्याच्या म्हणण्यानुसार संबंध गोव्यामध्ये, लहान मुलापासुन मोठ्यापर्यन्त समस्त जनांना अनंताश्रम माहित आहे. अधिक लिहिण्याची गरज नाही. ठिक आहे. मला त्याचे काय ?

परमेश्वर करो आणि अशी मेहुणी मला सातजन्म मिळो. आज तिने (उदार होत ) माझ्यासाठी, मला आवडते म्हणुन घरी बनवलेले शुद्ध रवाळ तुप , आब्यांचा मोरंबा आणि माझ्या बायकोसाठी फणसाची भाजी पाठवली ते पण चक्क माझे साडु मालाड वरुन घेउन आले. ( माझी मोठी मेहुणी. काश धाकटी असती तर ?)

वरती मी तीला खवचटपणे "तुपाचा वास फार चांगला येतो आता खाल्ल्यावर बघु कसे लागते ते " असे ऐकवले. (so mean of me)

चिच बोरे आवळे ओली बडिशोप आणि करवन्दे

लहाणपणी शाळेत असताना आपण चिचा, बोरे, आवळे, ओली बडिशोप, आणि करंवन्दे खात असु. आज भुलेश्वरला गेलो असता त्याची आठवण झाली.

रोज मधल्या सुट्टीत मी SANDWICH खात असे. त्या वेळी त्याची किंमत फक्त २५ पैसे होती.

अगदी अलीकडे पर्यन्त तो sandwichchwala त्याचा कडे मी Sandwich खाल्यानंन्तर माझ्याकडे गमतीने

२५ पैसे मागायचा. मधे केव्हातरी त्याचे निधन झाले.

शाळेतल्या canteern मध्ये वडापाव, सफेद वाटाणा उसळ मिळत असे आणि रस्तावर kulphi-icecream,

ह्या दिवसात कोकणतुन ओले काजुगर येण्यास सुरवात होते. मस्तपैकी ते घरी आणुन त्याची उसळ करावी,

पण ते मुबईत महाग विकले जातात. आज मी ३००.०० रुपये किलो प्रमाणे १०० ग्राम आणले.

And the final destination of Sunday morning culinary journey was Mumbadevi Jalebiwala near Mumbadevi Temple, Jhaveri Bhazar, Mumbai.

I am so much crazy after Jalebi and Papadi, GOD ONLY KNOWS.

Earlier in maharastrian wedding, the menu was used to be Jalebi and Mattha. That time I was used to eat so much Jalebis , my god, no wonder I am overweight.

Do not get fooled by the appearance of the shop, you get tasty Jalebi and Papadi here.

The next on the agenda of Sunday morning culinary journey was Ratanlal Bhagwandas Barfiwala at Bhuleshwar

In the whole world I have not yet found any other alternative for their Shrikhnad, Tirangi Barfi and Sakhareche Pedhe.

Every Hindu festival early in the morning you will find me at Ratanlal Bhagwandas Barfiwala for Shrikhand without which the celebration is incomplete.

A visit to Ratanlal Bhagwandas Barfiwala at Bhuleshwar is a must for the persons with Sweet Tooth.

You can get mithai's without Varkh also.

Prakash Dugdha Mandir,

This Sunday morning my culinary journey started from Prakash Dugdha Mandir opp. Phadke Wadi Ganesh Mandir, near Sicka Nagar V.P.Road, Mumbai.

It is one of the oldest Marathi restaurants who have maintained the same age-old original menu and the original look and same taste, and the same exceptionally good quality for last so many decades. In a period where other Maharastrian restaurants, started serving Punjabi, South Indian dishes to attract customers, Prakash has strongly refused to change and adhered to Pure and only Marathi snacks. Please note that the specialty items have schedule about the servings e.g. On Sunday - Batata Puri, Samosa, Moong Bhaji, Dahi Vada, Monday – Batata Puri, Sabudana Vada and so on.

For breakfast I choose Dahi Misal. Prakash have unique way of preparing Misal. It’s different from others. It consists of Vangi Pohe, Batata Bhaji, Mataki Usal, Chana Patal Usal, Sev, Chivda and Dahi and I am addicted to its taste and I cannot stay away from it.

The limited items available are Vangi Pohe, Batata Bhaji, Sabudana Khichadi, Batata Puri, Samosa, Moong Bhaji, Dahi Vada, Sabudana Vada, Mataki Usal ( But they refused to serve Pav along with usal) and Masala Dudh. The surrounding area being dominated by Gujarathi community, no wonder Prakash is patronized largely by them.

I am quite sure one fine day, mortal must have asked GOD, why the Nectar, is not meant for him? And then he must have been told to go to Prakash for Piyush. You see, in Kaliyug the Nectar has taken form of “PIYUSH”.

Even though Prakash have limited sitting capacity and unwieldy area, it’s worth while visiting them.

If you wannna burn your fingers and mouth while eating oven fresh, pipping hot pav, just go to Yazadni Bakery at Khadilkar Road, Girgaum, Mumbai around 7.00 p.m in the night and keep waiting for the Pav's to be removed from Ovens. Be first among the lot to avoid disappointment as it gets disappear into the hands of greedy customers next moment as soon as they are out.

This is just to say you thank you for the refurbishment of housegullies (Area between two buildings which is the ideal dumping ground for the residents) in the lane where I stay, from Area Development Fund available to you as our Member of Parliament.

I would also like to express gratitude towards Shri Nandkishor Bhatkar, who has been the main instrumental person beyond the work of improving conditions of all housegullies in the locality.

In south Mumbai, problem of housegullies still haunts the civic authorities. We the residents, tried to solve it through citizens initiative and participation.

Unfortunately, in spite of our best efforts, a condition of some of the housegullies deteriorated over a period of time due to various reasons like age old drainage system, non-co-operation from the residents of next lane etc. Those housegullies were in really bad shape and there was necessary for the restoration and then Shri Milind Deora, Shri Nandkishor Bhatkar, Shri Narendra Walawalkar, Mrs. Jayamala Walawalkar, Shri Ajit Sawant, Shri Patkar and their team came to our rescue.

Now this will help us to improve hygiene condition of our lane and quality of life of the residents living.
