SUN FACE BUDDHA MOON FACED BUDDHA

SUN FACE BUDDHA MOON FACED BUDDHA

The Great master Basho was seriously ill. The chief priest of the temple came to pay his respect.

He asked. “How do you feel these days?”

The master said, “Sun-faced Buddha, Moon-faced Buddha.”

JUST BE

A monk asked Chimon,
“What will the lotus flower be when it has not yet come of out of water?”

Chimon said, “The Lotus flower.”

The monk asked chimon,
“What about when it is out of the water?”

Chimon said, “The Lotus leaves.”

Emptiness.

A Buddha's compassionate sun face will shine on the good and the wicked for 18 thousand years, but such a long life, in the face of eternity, is merely a day, and weeping golden tears because there's so much left undone, he dies. A moon faced Buddha lives only only 24 hours, but he also leaves, weeping silver tears. However, both Buddhas are aware that the Absolute is fully manifest even in an instant of time, in something as everyday as the the sprouting of a seed, or the flapping of a bird's wings. So just to be alive is worth it, everything is worth it if he gets to see only an apple tree blooming.
